Our Lady's Abingdon - Lower School

Lower School

Education at OLA begins at Key Stage 2 which is a natural point in a child’s development for parents to consider the type of junior education needed to prepare your child for Senior School.

By starting at OLA in Year 3 they will not need to make another change of school having an easy and stress-free transition to our Senior School and Sixth Form (OLA 6th) with no entrance examination required.

Research has shown that between the ages of 7 and 8 children develop the attitudes, abilities and relationships that help them to succeed in education and also begin to gain a level of independence in their learning. It is therefore important for your child to be in the right school, receiving the right stimulus to direct this development.

Our success in providing the right stimulus comes from the combination of six factors that deliver the unique OLA learning experience.

Curriculum

At OLA Lower School, our children enjoy learning and make excellent progress because they have passionate teachers who inspire enthusiasm. From an early age, pupils are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning and to develop their independence.

Exciting lessons are supplemented by school trips, workshops and cross curricular activities.

School Day

The teaching day starts at 8.30am and consists of seven 40-minute lessons with a 20-minute morning break and 60 minutes for lunch. All meals are cooked on site, and all dietary needs are catered for. After-school clubs run from 3.20pm until 4.00pm with After-School Care available (for an additional cost) until 5.30pm.

Trips and Residentials

The Lower School children participate in a range of trips each academic year which support their Key Stage 2 education
