TEACHER of Art (September 2025)
Overview
For an exceptional candidate, you will join an academically ambitious school which is undergoing transformational change. OLA is looking for an equally ambitious person, with a broad and confident skill set to take the best of what we have on offer and drive the department forward, bringing fresh ideas to our creative team. We seek someone who can join the Creative Arts Faculty and continue to develop the School’s outstanding reputation for high quality Art. We are striving for a vibrant and rich learning experience, which will futureproof pupils and deliver high value-added results. As well as teaching up to A Level, and supporting students in preparing applications for foundation and undergraduate courses, the successful candidate will contribute to a full and varied co-curricular programme. This is an ideal opportunity for the right person to truly make a difference.
The Art Department
The Art Department is housed in a suite of rooms that offer a range of facilities in print, paint and sculpture. It is a dynamic department that encourages a broad and creative approach to the making of art work in both two and three dimensions. Over several years, we have built up a facility that enables pupils to work with versatility and diversity, referencing and honing both concrete and conceptual skills. We place a lot of emphasis on tailoring projects to meet the needs of all our pupils, thereby seeking out potential in a supportive and motivating environment.
Class sizes at GCSE and A Level are small which encourages a sense of ownership and mutual support. A designated 6th Form studio is not only a useful working space for A Level artists but is perceived as somewhere to which our younger artists will aspire to work in. Art Scholarships are offered in Yr7, Yr9 and in the L6.
Outside the classroom, we exhibit artwork throughout the school, enhancing the environment and showcasing the work of all year groups. Work exhibited in the Café Mall Gallery Foyer is usually that of A Level artists and is seen as a strong visual indicator of the centrality of the creative arts within the school. Our pupils go on to study several related degree courses such as Fine Art, Architecture, Interior Design and History of Art.
Further details regarding the role can be found in the Candidate pack attached below.
